Be conscious of what you're doing before you turn that handle! Do you ever turn on the hot water faucet to wash your hands, and then end up washing in cold water because you were in such a hurry you didn't wait for the hot water to get to the sink? As soon as you turned the handle, you drained hot water from the water heater into the pipes. It's still there, now getting cold. You 'used' hot water and you still have cold hands! Next time, decide if you're going to wait for the hot before you wash.
