Nashville Symphony
Led by dynamic Music Director Designate Giancarlo Guerrero, Music Advisor Leonard Slatkin and President and CEO Alan D. Valentine, the Grammy Award-winning Nashville Symphony has a growing international reputation for its recordings and innovative programming. With 140 performances annually, the 84-member Nashville Symphony is an arts leader in Nashville and beyond, offering a broad range of classical, pops and jazz concerts, special events, children’s concerts and community outreach programs.
In 2003, the Nashville Symphony broke ground on the $123.5 million Schermerhorn Symphony Center, the new home of the Nashville Symphony, which opened on September 9, 2006 to critical acclaim.

- SunTrust Classical Series: Mahler's Sixth
- Crackling rhythms and bold melodic leaps give Haydn's 59th Symphony its subtitle of "Fire." The astounding breadth of expression in Mahler's music contains a world of emotion. In his "Tragic" Symphony No. 6, a recurring struggle pits a funeral march against a lyrical theme, which Mahler said was a musical depiction of his wife.

- Debussy's last work for orchestra, Images, is a subtly shaded set of musical impressions of England, Spain and France. Concluding the concert are two works with dramatic flair: Liszt's fiendishly difficult Piano Concerto No. 1 and Dukas' most famous work — The Sorcerer's Apprentice.

- Back by popular demand, violinist James Ehnes performs Alban Berg's epoch-making Violin Concerto — a gripping composition dedicated to "the memory of an angel." In Johann Strauss' famous Weiner Blut waltz, the beloved Viennese dance takes center stage. The rich harmonies, noble melodies and concluding fanfare flourishes in Bruckner's Seventh Symphony, which gave the composer his first success at age 60.
