EveryMinute.org spreads the word about suicide awareness and suicide prevention and creates an information portal that people can utilize while advocating for increased mental health research funding.
Recently, founder Michael Corbin was on tour with the band Blue Octoberwhere he told his story of depression and suicidal ideation from a very young age. Audience members told him that his openness inspired them.
Anyone who sees EveryMinute.org knows they are not alone and that there is hope.
Michael Corbin will be speaking at the NAMI Vanderbilt campus affiliate which he helped establish. "Often, people have their first experience with mental illness in college, but don't feel like they have a place to turn. I hope to offer a safe haven where young people can open up about their experiences," said Mr. Corbin.
Another example of the work at EveryMinute.org is the training given to veterans to tell their stories of pain and recovery to bring others like themselves out of misery.
EveryMinute.org's mission was best described by one of its recent donors:
"I'm really glad to see this website. I really believe mental health research is woefully underfunded, as evidenced by the trial and error nature of treatment, and lack of non-anecdotal information on mental health drugs. I dream of a day where doctors can look ...at the brain, know exactly where the problem is, and fix it at the source."
