Bag the Lights

Un-trimming the tree? Zip-lock bags are great for storing lights: they keep the strands separate and protect the bulbs.

For years I meticulously wrapped Christmas tree lights around things to try to keep them organized. It took too long and it did not do a great job of protecting the lights. This was better then my original method of wadding them all together in a storage bin.

Then in a spark of laziness, I decided to put each strand of lights in a bag. It turns out that sealable 1 gallon plastic bags make great storage containers for Christmas lights.

  • They keep the strands separate and untangled (most important)
  • They are quick to store and quick to retrieve
  • When sealed they provide a nice air cushion which protects the bulbs

So don't waste time trying to be organized--just bag the lights and throw all the bags into a large storage bin.
