Two Years in Review: The Possibilities

Two Years in Review: The Possibilities

Are the possibilities for doing good really endless? We think so.

A lot has happened in the past two years, and of all the reasons to celebrate, we're most excited about what's still to come. For us, possibility isn't just a way to spend a few minutes daydreaming - it's why we jump out of bed in the morning, because what's to come in the world of social change is exciting. We love to dream big and love to hear when all the cool people out there do, too. Today, spend five minutes dreaming about the possibilities of a better world. Then, take the small and important steps towards that dream.

Yesterday I bought 3 pairs of Puma shoes. After getting home, I needed to get rid of the boxes somehow, but didn't want to toss them in the trash in case they might be useful somehow. I thought, "there must be a creative AND truly useful way to use these." It took me a bit, but then I realized that they'd make a much better peach carrier than my regular bag--just by strapping it onto my rack. It worked out great and indeed kept the delicate fruits nice'n unbruised, cushioned by the yielding yet firm cardboard all the way home.

There may be other people who don't want to throw out their shoeboxes who would love to realize they can use them for something so helpful like this but who might not think of it at first on their own.

Along this theme, could CoolPeopleCare spend some time sharing certain common could-be tossed items that would actually do a better job for something being reused than something new that could be bought? For me, I wasn't going to just keep junk around for no reason or the famous "just in case"--i.e. I'm never going to use it and won't admit it. I will keep something around and reuse it as long as it is truly reasonable to do so and increases the efficiency and enjoyment with which I do things. We've gotten used to throwing things out as the only option and think that it's too hard to reuse things, but I've found that in some cases, the opposite is true, and your website could help to highlight as many of these cases as possible, drawing on lots of inventiveness, but hopefully not veering into pack-rat or junky mentalities in the process.

My Puma box is also a mighty styling addition to the back of my bike rack and due to its fortuitous notching happens to be held beautifully well in place be bungee cords. Such win-win solutions are really cool for people for people who care! Spread the word about more of these!
