Off and Out
Flip it. Just flip it. As we gear up for Earth Hour this weekend, it's important to always remember to turn off (and keep off) lights and appliances we're not using. Often times, we turn lights on out of habit more than necessity. So, if enough light is shining through the window, make sure nearby lamps are off. And, if you won't be using something for a while, unplug it to avoid that awful phantom loading. Take stock of the entire house and watch your energy savings climb. Special bonus: Now that it's lighter for longer, move your most-used chair next to a window.

We have motion sensor lights in the playroom, which is the room where they typically leave the light on because it is in the basement and gets dark :) It turns off automatically and saves us energy too.
